George was born in Edinburgh and is a McGill University trained chartered psychologist. Psychology is his second profession. He was a Scots litigation lawyer for 12 years in the fields of immigration/refugee law, housing law, family and child protection law. He secured several legal “firsts” and his cases were reported in the press and in the Journal of the Law Society of Scotland.
His deep interest in trauma psychology stemmed from working with vulnerable and distressed groups. This led to psychology studies at McGill (undergraduate and Masters level) and he later worked in clinical practice with two of his former professors.
After 10 years in Canada, he returned to Scotland to complete doctoral studies and continue clinical practice. His doctoral research investigated the positive impact of Eye Movement and Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Participants in his study included Iraq war veterans and a victim of the Glasgow “bin lorry” tragedy. He treated many clients with EMDR, for example a victim of the Clutha Bar helicopter tragedy in Glasgow.
George has trained in various psychological models and techniques of therapy including EMDR, schema therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), psychodynamic/psychoanalytic therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
He has treated hundreds of clients in 15 years of practice, including war veterans, police officers, lawyers, accountants, actuaries, nurses, businesspeople, refugees, teachers LGBTQ+ and many other groups.
George works in-person and online and charges £125 per session. He is a service provider for BUPA, Cigna, Aviva and AXA.
George is a keen traveller and has visited around 40 countries, including India, 12 African countries, South America, South East Asia and Australia. He has lived and studied in Scotland, Canada, Paris, France and Sicily, Italy. He has dual British and Canadian nationality and is fluent in French.
